Getting your kids to eat healthily can be often difficult, especially after they have been introduced to the wonderful world of sugar, chocolate and everything else that is bad for you. However, although it might seem like they will never eat fruit or vegetables again, there is always a way to get kids more interested in healthy eating all while having fun.

Yes, fun with fruit is actually a real-life thing, with apples, bananas, oranges, pears, and other fruity goodness no longer the focus of your child's nightmares. Here are ten fun things to do with fruit (that your kids will love).

10 Funny Fruit Faces

Kids are often told off for playing with their food but sometimes there is nothing better than being creative and having fun with your dinner plate, especially when it is healthy. Yes, a good way to get your kids to eat more healthily is by turning their fodder into fun as well as encouraging them to do so. For instance, why not make smiley faces or little animals with bunny ears, you could even make a whole scene with forests and plants with rainbows and waterfalls.

Luckily, fruit comes in all different shapes and sizes and can be used to make just about anything.

9 Paper Fruit

Fruit doesn't always have to be edible which can also be an unexpected plus. Yes, although fruit might taste good it is still pretty messy and usually comes with something you will need to throw away or remove. However, not only is paper fruit easy to produce, but it is also neat and tidy and won't cause a giant mess. Creating fruit out of paper can increase your kid's creative skills and it is also kind of fun. To make it even more exciting, you could even create a whole basket of fruit or a fruit market where your little ones can practice their buying and selling skills.

8 Pineapple Straws

Straws are necessity for young children, so why not try to make them interesting? Lots of things can be done with straws, from making small fruit figures to tape on top of the straw to sticking real slices of fruit to the side. However, if you want your kids to become more environmentally friendly than why not try origami paper fruit straws instead? Start with a square piece of colored paper and fold it in half. Then, fold the paper diagonally both ways and bring them together via the upper right corner. Repeat this on the other side and then fold the flaps to the top. After this, flip the whole thing and do the same again until it looks like a diamond shape. Bingo, you now have a pineapple.

7 Banana Skin Magic Notes

Bananas are a staple for any lunchbox, so why not add a bit of creativity to the famous yellow fruit and make your kids day by adding a simple message to their snack. That's right, all you need is a pin or a toothpick and a cool imagination, plus a few bananas of course. However, make sure the banana is ripe, but not green, as the message is unlikely to appear on the skin. In fact, Megan Markle recently wrote a number of personal messages of empowerment and support for female workers on the street, with messages such as "you are brave" and "you are loved".

6 Fruit Lanterns

Fruit lanterns can be a lot of fun, especially around Halloween. However, they also work all through the year. They are also extremely easy to make and consist mainly of fruit, what's better than that! All you need is some fruit, a small sharp knife, and some fillings if you want to take it that little bit further. Firstly, slice the top away from the chosen fruit, watermelons work the best due to their size, although any kind of rounded fruit will work. Next, cut around the inside and remove all the gooey segments inside, your kids will probably love this bit. Then, once the core is removed, place a candle or some edible fillings in the inside.

5 Fruit Skewers

Fruit skewers are perfect for children's parties, weekend barbecues and any old regular day at home, plus they are extremely easy and convenient to make. Furthermore, they are also packed with hundreds of vitamins, thus working as a great way to get your kids to gobble up some fruit and at the same time, enjoy it.

All you need to do is take a few skewers and thread your chosen fruit on each one. The best fruit to use are raspberries, strawberries, mango, pineapples, and grapes. However, most fruits are good to go, just remember to cut the fruit into sizeable cubes so they don't crumble.

4 Watermelon Seeds

Watermelons are one of the most refreshing fruits in the world, with watermelon juice just as good as eating the watermelon whole. However, there are also many other things you can do with watermelons, some of which involve the seeds. That's right, all you need to do is take some green and red paper and collect as many seeds as you can from a watermelon. Once you have your materials, give your kids a circle cut out of the green paper as well as a slightly smaller red circle, then get them to glue the paper so that it looks like a watermelon. After this, have them glue their seeds all over the circles so that it looks like a homemade watermelon.

3 Strawberry Playdough

Strawberry playdough is a sure-fire hit with young children and will most definitely keep them entertained for a good couple of days. Plus, it only takes ten minutes to make, and what is better than that? All you need is 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of salt, a tablespoon of cream of tartar, 1 cup of water, pink gel food coloring, strawberry flavoring oil, and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. First, mix all the dry ingredients in a pot and then add the vegetable oil, water, flavoring oil, and food coloring. Next, place the pot on the stove on medium heat and stir until the mixture has turned into a spongey ball. There you have it, strawberry playdough in ten minutes.

2 Mini Greenhouse

Mini greenhouses are a wonderful thing to do with children, not only are they fun, but they are also highly educational. All you need is two clear plastic cups (you can always use more cups once your kids feel more comfortable when looking after their crops), tape, fruit seeds, water, paper towels, and a black marker. Firstly, wet the paper towel, fold it, and then put it in the bottom of the plastic cup.

Next, place the fruit seeds on top of the wet paper towel and use the marker pen to write what fruit seeds are in the cup, then tape it to the outside. Finally, place the mini-greenhouses on a sunny windowsill and have your kids keep an eye on their progress.

1 Banana Popsicles

Bananas are a wonderful fruit and can be made into many delicious things such as banana bread, banana cake, banana sorbet, banana ice cream, and yes you guessed it, banana popsicles. Firstly, take some ripe bananas and put a wooden popsicle stick through the bottom of the base, just make sure you don't break the banana. Then, dip the bananas into some melted chocolate or yogurt and top with nuts, sprinkles, chocolate chips, or anything else that your child's heart desires. Finally, place the bananas on a baking tray and put them in the freezer for around three hours before treating your kids to one of the best-frozen treats in the world.
